Exclusive: How Fast Does The Ford F-150 Lightning Charge?

The 2022 Ford F150 Lightning is set to hit showrooms in a few days

and while many of the car's features are discussed, described and discussed on InsideEV and other news

sites, little is known about how well the car will charge from the outside. Input data provided by Ford

Here, InsideEV is known for its in-depth analysis of EV charging more than any other EV site

and Ford is paying attention. When I attended the F150 Lightning First Drive event

Darren Palmer, vice president of Ford's electric vehicle program

and Linda Zhang, senior engineer, F150 Lightning presented me with Lightning charging data and said they

wanted me to be the first. That's because we do a good fill analysis.

This is a line chart of charging power versus state of

charge and charging time, so it cannot be published

Ford has already revealed information that the Lightning with extended battery capacity will charge from 15% to 80% in 41 minutes

A vehicle with a standard battery takes 45 minutes to achieve the same result.

The standard range battery is smaller, but takes longer to charge from 15% to 80% because the maximum charge

rate is slightly slower and the charging curve is less aggressive. Larger batteries provide faster charging rates in a charging curve that accounts for slower charging times.
