The United States may not have qualified outright for the 2022 FIFA

World Cup, but there's one foot in the door.

An emphatic statement was made by the United States in Orlando, stomping Panama 5-1 to nearly seal a World Cup place. With the result,

the U.S. officially clinched no worse than a top-four finish in the CONCACAF Octagonal, but even that undersells the reality of the situation.

Christian Pulisic led the way, wearing the captain's armband and bagging a hat-trick in the blowout win. Paul Arriola scored a goal and played well in his 45 minutes

while Gio Reyna was stellar after coming on for the second half. Jesus Ferreira got a goal as well to give the FC Dallas man a boost amongst the crowded striker ranks.

With the four goal margin, the U.S. would now have to lose by six or more goals against Costa Rica on Wednesday to be knocked out of an automatic qualifying position.
